The underlying objective of the Bachelor of Arts (Economics) course is to develop theoretical and analytical skills of the students so that they may be absorbed in the corporate world or be able to pursue higher studies at the Master level in Economics. In the rapidly changing globalized market scenario, the need was felt to equip students with the capability to understand and handle the dynamic of economics and the business world. In order to achieve the above-mentioned objectives, a comprehensive syllabus comprising topics relating to economics, quantitative techniques, business, and analytics has been developed in the three-year, six-semester module, giving wider coverage to the course contents, better organization to enable easier assimilation of the same by the students, and a more professional touch to the course.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

The papers have been designed to include recent changes and developments and current trends in the subjects concerned. The papers in computer applications have been designed to introduce the student to packages required for statistical analysis and to enable the student to implement the techniques through computers, thus supplementing the quantitative papers. The core economics papers are rationalized in their structure and sequencing wherein a broad idea of microeconomic concepts, macroeconomic theories, and economic thoughts is introduced.

Mentoring

Mentoring programme is designed for providing students a hand to help, guide and listen them as and when needed. Mentoring at SBU contributes significantly to the academic and emotional wellbeing of the student. A student is attached to his/her Mentor for a given period of time which is helpful towards the development of a special bond between the mentor & mentee, resulting towards a greater reciprocation of thoughts and ideas. Mentors guide their mentee in achieving the desired career path. ELIGIBILITY AND ADMISSION

Eligibility

10+2 examination with at least 45% marks, conducted by a recognized board or its equivalent examination. In addition, applicant must have studied Mathematics/Computers/ Statistics/Accountancy/Banking/ Business Studies/Economics as as one of the subjects at 10+2 level. (05% relaxation in marks in case of candidates belonging to ST/SC category).

Admission Process

They may also download the application form from the website of the University and may submit along with the relevant documents to the Information Centre of the University. They may also walk down to the University campus along with relevant documents to the Information centre for counselling and further admission process.

Applicants may submit the application form and required documents at the Admission Office personally or by post. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that the application form is complete in all respects, and is accompanied by the required documents.

Applicants should attach the copies of the following Certificates/Documents.

  • Passing / Provisional Certificates along with Mark Sheets of the qualifying Examinations
  • School/College Leaving Certificate last attended 
  • Conduct Certificate 
  • Anti-Ragging Affidavit 
  • Medical Fitness Certificate issues by a registered medical practitioner / government health centre 

Note: Final Year students awaiting the declaration of results can also apply and can also be considered for Admission. However, they have to submit the relevant supportive documents at the time of admission

Selection Process

Selection of students for B.Com. programme of Sarala Birla University, Ranchi is purely done on the basis of merit. However, the University reserves the right of amending the admission and selection process.

SBU is having an active placement cell working through out for maintaining good placement record. The placement cell is credited for taking active participation in selection of companies visiting the University for Campus recruitment. To make the students corporate ready as per the specific requirement of Industry, mandatory workshops in personality development exercised have been introduced in the curriculum, in which students are trained for public speaking, presentations, self-assessment exercises etc.
